Volleyball has been around for quite some time now, but it all started in Holyoke, Massachusetts. William G. Morgan started this game back in 1895. William originally named the game "Mintonette." Since then, the sport of volleyball has grown to be one of the big five international sports and is governed by the FIVB . There are 220 affiliated national federations, making it the largest international sporting federation in the world. Volleyball has grown drastically over the years, and for good reason. This is a sport that is exciting for everyone involved, whether you are playing, reffing, or a fan in the bleachers. In the last two decades, volleyball has had success in the FIVB World Championship, the FIVB World League, the FIVB World Grand Prix, the FIVB World Cup, and the FIVB Grand Champions Cup, along with the Olympics. With such an intriguing sport like this, there was no way it could be restricted to staying in the United States.      The game of voll...

Authoritarian Media

North Korea     The exact definition of authoritarian is "favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom." Basically, what this means is you have a blind submission to authority, and you are allowed hardly any to no personal freedom. North Korea is described as a dictatorship, Juche, social state, and one-party state. North Korea is said to be one of the most repressive authoritarian states in the world. North Korea also known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is a country in East Asia. This country is run by Kim Jong-un who is coming up on his eleventh year in power. He is the third Kim family leader and also head of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). Kim Jong-un runs a very tight ship in North Korea. He is almost total political control, is very strict on travel in and out of the country, and has been known for punishing those who have had contact with the outside world. T...

Radio

Radio in Australia     Depending on the area you live in, the radio may or may not still be a big hit. Some people may see it as outdated, but others still use the radio as they please. In this case, the radio is still instrumental in Australia. The radio is still a useful source for advertising but is also helpful in case of an emergency or disaster. Australia sees that the radio will never be able to top the online industry but then again it is not trying to move into the online industry. In some countries when you look at charts of radio use, it is common to see a decline. In Australia's case, they have had a 3.1% decrease from 2017-2022 in their market size growth but a growth of 2% just in  2022. A recent study showed that 95% of Australians had a radio but from 2018-2020 the percentage of radios in homes went from 67% to 60%. Australians aged 45 and older are also more likely to listen to AM or digital radio in their home rather than anyone 18-44 years old....

Perspectives of 'Local' News

Image
France     The news is one thing that I don't really pay attention to on a normal basis. For me, I only hear about the news through others or if whatever is going on in the world at that time is meaningful enough then I might take a peek at it. Usually, I just receive my news through my social media platforms such as Snapchat, Tik Tok, Facebook, and Instagram. With all of that being said, this paper was a little difficult for me just solely because I am not very familiar with the news and how we run our American news.      The news is supposed to report on things that people not only need to hear but want to hear as well and this may very well be different in every country. What is important to the citizens of one country might be near as significant to other countries. Culturally, France and America have some major differences . The first one is obvious being the languages that we speak. France is also not very big on fast food chains either so they just...
